Having problems?

Browser problems

The quiz pages require either Internet Explorer 4+, Netscape 4+, or Netscape 6.1+. Users who have Netscape 6.0 should update to the latest version. If you use a different browser than those just mentioned, it may not display the pages or the quizzes in an optimal manner. In this case, you may be better to download the full text version and study the course offline.

Moving around the course

The online training course is designed to be read in a linear order, and you will find links at the bottom of each page to the previous and next page. However, you can go to any page in the course at any time by either clicking on the links in the menu on the left hand side of the page, or by going to the Table of Contents which is linked at the top of the page.

When an outside web contains information of interest to the topic you are studying, a link to it has been made. These links will open the web in a new browser window, rather than overwriting the window holding the course page. This is to enable you to easily return to your place in the course.

Extra information

In order to keep the pages a reasonable length, some relevant information has been placed in "popups". A link from the page may link to a small web page when clicked on. Try it now. Just remember to either close the window before moving on, or, if there are a series of popups, move to the next popup, and the next until you have seen all the popups.

Doing the exercises

True or False?

Most of the exercises are pretty simple to understand. You may be asked to choose between True or False (or Yes or No) by clicking in the little white circle beside your answer. There may be a lot of different choices, rather than just two. You will get an instant response to your choice. Try it now.

Elephants are the largest mammal on earth.
Yes
No

Choices?

You may be given a number of choices as answers and may be asked to choose from several answers. Click in the box beside the answers you think are correct and then click on the "Check my answers" button. You can clear your checkmarks by clicking the "Reset" button. Some of these exercises are scored to give you an indication of how well you did.

The following is a list of bird names. Which ones are real?
Rock Earthcreeper
Rufous-Tailed Plant-Cutter
Yellow-Crowned Tit
Streaky-Breasted Flufftail
Crested Cheeseparer
Least Loon
Cinnamon-Bellied Ground-Tyrant

Words, words, words

Some of the exercises may require you to enter text into boxes. Simply type what you think is the correct answer and click the "Check my answer" button. If you get a wrong answer response, try to think of other words that say the same thing.

The bird which people commonly think of as a sign of spring is the ...

Win or lose

You will be presented with a scenario which may or may not be a good idea. You need to click on the appropriate image to either give the idea a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down".

Protecting habitat is one of the most important steps we can take to ensure the health of a species.
