Catch Up With Your Classmates

What's up with Carlos …

Thinking back to our last conversation, I've now got a better understanding of the environment my organization is operating in and the trends that are affecting it the most. I talked to the President to learn more about how the board arrived at the long-term goals I told you about last time. She explained a bit about the strategic planning process the board went through, and she invited me to get involved in the Planning Committee's upcoming meeting. I guess the board is starting to rethink its mission statement and update its strategic plan.

Now that I've learned about the board's accountabilities, I realize that developing a strategic plan for achieving its mission is one of the board's main responsibilities. I've never been involved in this level of decision-making before, and I want to be sure I understand the strategic planning process before I commit to the Planning Committee.

Can you help me clarify which of the following elements are not among the most important elements for the board to consider in developing its strategic plan? (Hint: there are three.)

Funders' priorities
The resources needed to carry out potential strategies
The history of the organization
The organization's strengths and weaknesses
A variety of methods for addressing internal and external factors that affect the organization
Threats and opportunities in the environment
Operational details for carrying out potential strategies
The organization's mission
The priorities of the organization

Thanks, I guess the strategic planning process isn't as complicated as I thought. I think I might sign up for the Planning Committee to familiarize myself more with the organization before committing to the board.

Next, get the latest news from Debra.
