Future Boards

"Planning for the succession and diversity of the board" is one of the non-profit board's main responsibilities, as outlined by the Panel on Accountability and Governance in the Voluntary Sector.

Effective stewardship requires your current board to prepare the way for the future board. It is your board's responsibility to ensure that the organization is left in the hands of capable leaders, including leaders who are representative of the organization's constituencies. The long term viability and strength of your organization will expand as your board fulfills its duty to plan for its succession and to address diversity issues.
