New Modules Support Disability Inclusion in Youth Mentoring

Mentor Canada announces the launch of three new online modules designed to equip mentoring organizations and programs with the knowledge and skills necessary to create inclusive environments that empower youth experiencing disability. Mentor Canada collaborated with Partners for Youth with Disabilities to co-develop these comprehensive training modules to address a critical need within the mentoring field in Canada, ensuring all youth have the opportunity to thrive through positive mentoring relationships.

The training includes 3 modules:

Disability and Trauma

Building a Disability-Inclusive Mentoring Program

Foundations of Disability-Inclusive Mentoring

Disability and Trauma

This module delves into the impact of trauma on youth experiencing disabilities. Participants will gain valuable insights into creating trauma-informed mentoring spaces and learn techniques to foster positive engagement.

Building a Disability-Inclusive Mentoring Program

This module equips program staff and practitioners with tools to build and deliver inclusive mentoring programs. Participants will explore best practices that incorporate intersectionality and accommodations into mentoring program delivery and hiring practices.

Foundations of Disability-Inclusive Mentoring

This module lays the foundation for a disability-inclusive mentoring approach. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of persons experiencing disability, working definitions, and its prevalence in Canada. The module also explores the role of intersectionality in cultivating an inclusive mentoring environment.
